Upcoming Trips

Morehead City, North Carolina
July 28 - August 1st

Sand Tiger Sharks!! Wreck Dives! In the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Morehead City, North Carolina, July 28 - August 1st.

The Summer Trip is booked, the rooms reserved, the entire dive boat, The Diver Down, is chartered and Captain Bob Cox is ready. The sharks (all 100 of them) have been put on notice to be ready for the Barracuda Divers!!

This is a dive I have always wanted to do. The problem in the past has been booking the boat. Every time we have tried to book the boat, it has already been booked out. This time we reserved the boat last year, so that we could put this trip together for this year. Terry Briscoe went up to North Carolina in November, dove these dives and came back amazed! He told me it was some of the best diving he had ever done.

It is some awesome diving, schools of banner fish, jack, and schools of bait fish. But that is not why we are going here. The North Carolina coast is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic because of all the wreck dives to choose from, many of which were sunk by German U-boats during WWII. We will dive the U-352, a German WWII era U-Boat! But wait, that is not the main reason we are diving here either; the main reason is the wrecks in this area are known to be schooling sites of the Sand Tiger Shark! They gather here by the schools during the summer time. Sand Tiger Sharks are those BIG sharks in all the aquariums you have visited.. the ones with the gosh awful dental work... huge teeth that protrude out of their head, and look like your worst nightmare as a diver! The great news is... they are just big pussy cats, known to be extremely docile, lazy, slow moving, and pretty much just ignore divers. Their temperament is the same as a Nurse Shark (they are actually a type of nurse shark) but their look is more like a really bad dream! They can reach lengths of up to 13' and weigh as much as 300 pounds!!

We will be driving up Wednesday, diving Thursday, Friday, Saturday and driving back home Sunday. Two tanks per day. The boat ride is about 2 hours one way, out to the Graveyard of the Atlantic. No airfare, no airport security, no taxi fares, no lugging dive bags through airports, and no car rentals! Car pool up with some friends, and cut the cost of the gas. I truly believe this is the most dive, the most awesome experience you can have for the dollar.

The cost of the trip will be $750.00 per person based on three people to a room. For a private room for two, the cost is $825.00. There is also a bunk room available that sleeps six. If you want to bunk with some friends, and save some money, this is the way to go. The package price for this room is $725.00. The package price INCLUDES six dives, six air OR nitrox tanks, a box lunch on the boat all three days, lodging for four nights, and all taxes. We have booked the entire 8 room motel. Terry stayed at this motel in November, it is clean and VERY handy to the boat (Similar to the Ponce DeLeon Motor Lodge). It is NOT the Sheraton! If you want to make your own lodging accommodations, that is certainly fine, and we can deduct 125.00 per person from your package price if you decide to do so.

It costs us a little more to charter the entire boat, and in order to charter the entire boat, we have to have 15 people. The maximum number we can take is 20. There will be no one else on the boat... just us Barracuda Divers!! Dives will be in the 80-120' range. Water temp will be in the 3 mil wetsuit range, very comfortable! The boat will depart from the dock every morning at 7:30 and return around 4-4:30. Another great advantage of this motel and dive boat... they are very close to each other. You can walk from the motel to the boat, and the captain has told us that once we get our gear on board, we can leave it on the boat for the entire three days. No lugging dive gear around!

You can visit the website of The Diver Down for details on our dive boat.

Terry Briscoe brought home a bag of sharks teeth. They congregate here in such large numbers that the wreck and sand is littered with them. These are BIG shark teeth, and they make a great necklace for an old salty diver!

This is gonna be some awesome diving! When you have a few minutes, please check out these videos.

I do need a head count and a list of who is going ASAP. Let me know and I will pencil you in. This is non-binding at this point, it is just to help us get some numbers. However, we MUST have a 100.00 deposit by the 1st of April, so that we can send in our deposit to the dive boat. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE! We will need another deposit of 100.00 by the 1st of May, and the balance of your trip package cost will be due by June 15th.

Diving a German U-boat... diving with a hundred sand tiger sharks... this is gonna be sooooooooooo cool!!

PS... If you don't have an underwater camera get one! Or at least rent one! This will be a photo op of a lifetime!!
